‘Angalo’ meaning warm hug in Nepali, is a concept and commitment to embrace all Senior Citizens by sharing their knowledge and life experiences. The Organisation was
conceptualised with the conviction and commitment to embrace Senior Citizens, advocate for their rights and ensure quality care in their everyday lives. As we believe, that 'Senior Lives Matter'.
Angalo was established in 2017, with a mission to support, network and connect with Senior Citizens and to focus on celebrating them. Angalo is registered as a not-for-profit Company under the Company Act 2063. Angalo carries
the legacy of 'Service Fund for Elderly Citizens', the fund raising activity of Shanti Ashram which advocates for the rights and care of Senior Citizens. In the present bustling society forseen by Henry Davies (1871-1940) and aptly
expressed as 'No time to see, in broad daylight, streams full of stars, like skies at night,”, we pause to applaud and appreciate the contribution of our Senior Citizens who have played a crucial role in constructing the society we
now enjoy. Our Senior Citizens are like stars invisible to the unsearching eyes. We sometimes tend to forget their care and protection in shaping our lives.
Angalo is also an evidence based public policy advocacy services group involved in the research, training and knowledge sharing that works in a sustainable way with Senior Citizens. Angalo aims to advocate and lobby to reform,
amend and implement policies and laws related to the rights of Senior Citizens.
The Founder of Shanti Ashram for Senior Citizens Mrs. Sabitri Jangam Thapa, and the Founder of Service Fund for Senior Citizens Mr. Bhola Man Singh Thapa are the Patrons of Angalo. Under their guidance and patronage Angalo
envisions to fulfill it’s commitment for the objective it has been established for.
In 2000,
Shanti Ashram Bridha Sewa Kosh (SABSK), a fund raising wing of Shanti Ashram was established by Patron Mrs. Sabitri Thapa and Mr. Bhola Man Singh Thapa by initiating a Trust Fund. The objective
of SABSK was to help and support helpless Senior Citizens in their basic requirements.
Since its inception, SABSK has honoured Senior Citizens who have contributed in different aspects of socio-cultural and education fields. It has also provided annual medical allowance to ‘Ama Ghar’ Kalimati, supported the
upkeep of Senior Citizens, conducted Health camps, provided musical instruments and constructed the kitchen of the Bungamati Day Care Centre for Senior Citizens. Thus, Angalo’s legacy dates back to three decades.
